Terms of service
Last updated: August 2026
These terms tell you who we are, how we sell to you, how we deliver, and what to do if something goes wrong. Please read them before you order. By using this website or placing an order, you accept these terms.
1. Who we are
We are Holmes Forestry Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 09825490. Our registered office is 50-54 Oswald Road, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN15 7PQ. We trade from Ermine Street, Broughton, Brigg, DN20 0AJ — please use that address for returns and correspondence. Our VAT number is GB236770296.
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Holmes Forestry Limited. "You" means the person using this website or placing an order.
You can contact us by email at info@holmesforestry.co.uk or by phone on 01652 658595.
2. These terms
These terms apply to every order you place with us. Our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy form part of them.
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page when you place your order is the version that applies to that order.
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
3. Using this website
You must be 18 or over to place an order.
You may need to give us your name, email address, phone number, delivery address and payment details to order. Please make sure everything you give us is accurate and up to date, and tell us promptly if anything changes.
If you create an account, keep your login details secure. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Do not share, sell or transfer it.
4. Our products
We supply firewood, kindling, wood chip and related wood fuel. Wood is a natural product, so no two loads are identical.
How we sell our logs. We sell our logs by the bag, net or load — not by weight. The weight of any bag, net or load varies with species, log size and moisture content, so we do not state or guarantee a weight. Where a product page gives a volume or bag size, treat it as the nominal size of the container, filled in the normal way.
Appearance and variation. Log length, thickness, bark and colour vary between loads and between species. Photographs on this website show a typical example rather than the exact product you will receive. Colours on screen also vary between devices.
Moisture content. Where we describe wood as kiln-dried, it meets a moisture content of 20% or less at the point we supply it. Wood absorbs moisture, so store it under cover and off the ground. Unseasoned wood is sold for seasoning and is not ready to burn when you receive it.
We may change product descriptions, withdraw any product, or limit the quantity we supply to any customer or area.
5. Placing an order
When you place an order, you are offering to buy from us. We accept your order when we email you to confirm it. That is the point a contract forms between us.
We may decline an order — for example if the product is unavailable, if we cannot deliver to your address, if we have made a pricing error, or if we cannot take payment. If we decline or cancel your order, we will contact you and refund any payment in full.
If you need to change or cancel an order, call or email us as soon as possible. We will do what we can, but we may not be able to change an order once we have loaded it for delivery. Your cancellation rights are set out in our Refund Policy.
6. Prices and payment
Prices are shown on the product page and include VAT at the current rate. Delivery is charged separately and is added at checkout.
The price you pay is the price shown when you place your order, confirmed in your order confirmation email. Prices and promotions can change at any time, but changes do not affect orders we have already accepted.
If we spot an obvious pricing error before we accept your order, we will contact you. You can confirm the order at the corrected price or cancel it.
We take payment when you place your order. You confirm that you are entitled to use the payment method you give us.
7. Delivery
We deliver locally only. We deliver within our own delivery zones using our own vehicles. We do not offer nationwide delivery or send goods by courier. Our delivery zones and charges are set out on our delivery page and on each product page, and the correct charge is applied automatically at checkout.
If your address falls outside our zones, call us on 01652 658595 — we may still be able to help.
Arranging your delivery. After you order, we will contact you to arrange a delivery day, unless you have told us otherwise in your order notes. We aim to deliver within 5 working days. Delivery dates are estimates, not guarantees.
Access. Please make sure our vehicle can reach your property safely and that there is a suitable, accessible place to unload or tip. Tell us in your order notes about anything that affects access — narrow lanes, low branches, gravel, soft ground, gated entries or parking restrictions. We will not drive onto ground where we risk damaging the surface or becoming stuck, and we are not responsible for damage to driveways, verges, lawns or manhole covers where you have asked us to drive on them.
If we cannot deliver. If we cannot access your property, or nobody is there to accept a delivery that needs someone present, we will contact you to arrange another day. We do not charge you for a second attempt.
Risk and ownership. The goods become your responsibility when we deliver them to your address. You own them once we have received payment in full.
8. Storing and burning wood safely
Store wood under cover, off the ground and with air circulating around it. Burn it only in an appliance designed for wood, installed and maintained to the manufacturer's instructions, and keep your chimney or flue swept.
Follow your appliance manufacturer's guidance and any local rules on burning, including smoke control area restrictions. We are not responsible for damage caused by burning our products in an unsuitable, faulty or poorly maintained appliance.
9. If something is wrong with your order
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the goods we supply must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. If they are not, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.
Tell us as soon as you can — ideally within 48 hours of delivery — and send photographs if you can. Full details of returns, cancellations and refunds are in our Refund Policy.
10. Our website content
We own or license everything on this website: the text, images, video, graphics, logos, layout and design. It is protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights.
You may use this website for your own personal use. You may not copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, modify or commercially exploit any part of it without our written permission.
"Holmes Forestry" and our logo are our trade marks. Do not use them without our permission. Other names and logos on this site belong to their owners.
11. Third-party tools and links
This website may give you access to tools and content provided by third parties, and may link to other websites. We do not control them and we do not check them.
We provide access to third-party tools as they are, without any warranty, and we are not liable for your use of them. If you follow a link to another website, you do so at your own risk. Please read that website's own terms and privacy policy.
12. Our relationship with Shopify
This store is powered by Shopify, which enables us to provide our services to you. However, any sales and purchases you make in our store are made directly with Holmes Forestry Limited. By using this store, you acknowledge and agree that Shopify is not responsible for any aspect of any sale between you and us, including any injury, damage or loss resulting from products purchased. You release Shopify and its affiliates from all claims, damages and liabilities arising from or related to your purchases and transactions with us.
13. Privacy
We handle your personal information in line with our Privacy Policy. Because this store runs on Shopify, Shopify also processes information about your use of the site in order to provide and improve it. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and who we share it with.
14. Reviews and feedback
If you send us a review, suggestion, idea or any other feedback, you give us permission to use, copy, publish and adapt it, in any medium, without payment to you. We are not obliged to keep it confidential, act on it or reply to it.
Please make sure anything you send us is your own, is accurate, and is not offensive, misleading, defamatory or unlawful. We can remove content we consider inappropriate.
15. Errors on this website
Occasionally this website may contain errors, inaccuracies or omissions — for example in a product description, price, promotion or delivery charge. We may correct any error and update or cancel an affected order at any time, including after you have placed it. If we cancel, we will refund you in full.
16. Acceptable use
You may use this website for lawful purposes only. You must not:
- break any law or regulation, or infringe anyone's rights;
- harass, abuse, threaten or defame anyone, including our staff;
- send false or misleading information, or impersonate anyone;
- send spam, junk mail or unsolicited advertising;
- upload viruses or any other harmful code;
- collect or track other people's personal information;
- scrape, harvest or extract data from the site by any automated means; or
- interfere with or get around the site's security features.
We may suspend or close your account without notice if you break these rules.
17. Automated agents
This section applies if you use, enable or deploy an "agent" — software that acts on your behalf, automatically or semi-automatically, without direct supervision — to interact with this website.
An agent may only use this website if it identifies itself in every request by including "Agent/[agent name]" in its user agent string. An agent must not disguise itself as a human, mimic human behaviour, complete or bypass CAPTCHAs, or get around any measure we use to control automated access. If we ask an agent to stop accessing this website, it must stop. We may block or limit automated access at any time.
18. Our responsibility to you
We do not exclude or limit our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for breach of your legal rights in relation to the goods we supply.
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
Most of our customers buy as consumers, and these terms are written for them. If you buy for business purposes, the consumer rights described in these terms — including the right to cancel within 14 days — do not apply to you. In that case we will have no liability for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity, and our total liability to you is limited to the price you paid for the goods.
Information on this website is provided for general guidance only. We do not warrant that it is complete or accurate, or that the website will always be available or free of errors.
19. Events outside our control
We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control — for example severe weather, flooding, road closures, vehicle breakdown, fire, industrial action or failure of supply. If such an event affects your order, we will contact you to rearrange delivery. If the delay is substantial, you may cancel and we will refund you for anything you have paid for but not received.
20. General
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another business. You may not transfer yours without our written permission.
If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
If we delay in enforcing any part of these terms, we can still enforce it later.
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, form the whole agreement between us about your order.
21. Complaints
If something has gone wrong, contact us first — email info@holmesforestry.co.uk or call 01652 658595 — and we will do our best to put it right.
22. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
